Sensitive baby skin
Why is baby skin so sensitive?
A healthy baby skin is of great importance for the well-being of our little ones. The skin is the largest body organ of humans and especially the delicate baby skin is very sensitive and requires special care and attention.
The skin of our babies quickly loses moisture and thus tends to dry out quickly. This is due to the thinner horny layer compared to adults. In addition, baby skin has fewer sebaceous and sweat glands and thus produces fewer lipids for the skin's protective acid mantle and less sweat for temperature regulation and UV protection. Consequently, babies overheat much faster than adults.
Our Tom&Jenny organic cotton bodysuits are the perfect clothing for newborns and babies. With their special interlock knitting technology, the soft bodysuits are particularly air-permeable as well as breathable and promote the exchange of the skin with the air. In addition, they protect against UV radiation and heat. Cotton as a natural material with its natural fats also supports a re-fatting of the baby's skin. The natural cotton fabric without chemical pollution is very low irritation and helps the delicate baby skin to regulate skin moisture.
What to look for:
Things to consider when choosing clothes for our babies
.The importance of the choice of clothing for our babies is often underestimated, because it plays a major role in the skin care of the little ones: the right clothing prevents skin irritations and reduces possible sources of allergies.
The pediatrician Dr. Knaupe explains why cotton is particularly suitable for baby skin and gives tips to consider when choosing the right baby clothes. In general, only natural fabrics such as cotton support the well-being of our little ones.
- 1. high quality long fiber cotton is especially suitable for baby's delicate skin. Cotton is permeable to air and breathable. It promotes the exchange of the skin with the air, protects against UV radiation and heat. In addition, cotton allows our babies to keep the body temperature stable without stress.
- 2. cotton protects baby skin from drying out quickly. At the same time, it acts as a protection against excessive evaporation and helps regulate the water balance of our babies.
- 3. the chemically unpolluted natural material cotton is very low in irritants. It supports the re-fatting of the baby's skin via its natural fats. Thus, skin remains soft and does not become flaky.
- 4. the use of any additives, such as fragrances, should be avoided. They are harmful and have no benefit. Our babies have no inherent odor. Fragrances are unnecessary sources of irritation that can cause allergies and skin irritation.
Neurodermatitis. What to do?
Our baby has neurodermatitis. What to do?
Many babies suffer from neurodermatitis, which is associated with great agony for the little ones. They do not yet know what is happening to them and can not cope with the itching and sores. Many parents despair when they see their suffering little ones and don't know what to do. Unfortunately, there is not THE ONE remedy for neurodermatitis. Medical treatment and support are inevitable here.
Despite this, parents can do a lot to improve the well-being of their little ones. This includes a careful selection of food, care products and textiles. Conscious handling usually provides noticeable relief.
High-quality cotton bodysuits that are free of any additives are considered particularly suitable.
.- Cotton is a natural fabric and ensures breathability and air exchange of the skin. Textiles with synthetic materials should be avoided at all costs.
- Certified (e.g. GOTS) and ideally white cotton fabrics help to eliminate possible irritation caused by additives as potential sources of irritation for allergies.
- Cotton fabrics are absorbent and keep weeping, sore skin areas (from scratching) dry. Especially in the problem areas, such as the diaper area, this can also prevent the formation of fungi and bacteria and the resulting infections.
- As a natural fabric, cotton fabrics contain their own fats, which support the moisture regulation of the skin via a natural form of refatting and minimize itching.
- Baby Bodysuits (long-sleeved) make it almost impossible for babies to scratch itchy skin areas (they simply can't get to the affected skin areas)
- In order to avoid irritations and risks of irritation caused by chemical substances, bodysuits should only be washed with sensitive detergents. (Tip: Use soap nuts as natural cleaning to exclude any chemical irritation risk).
- Constant hygiene and cleanliness are a matter of course. They help to control atopic dermatitis. Baby Bodysuits should be washed well and frequently. Good bodies can withstand this without wearing out quickly. (Tip: Always wash at least 60 degrees to ensure that all bacteria are eliminated).

What Dr. Knaupe and our midwives say about Tom&Jenny Bodys
.Pediatrician Dr. med Bärbel Knaupe and midwives recommend mothers our Tom&Jenny baby bodys full of conviction: "Not only that organic cotton is the perfect clothing for newborns and babies," says Dr. med Bärbel Knaupe. "With their special interlock knitting technique, the soft Tom&Jenny bodysuits are particularly air-permeable as well as breathable and at the same time protect against UV radiation and heat. The natural bio cotton fabric without chemical loads is very low in irritants and helps the delicate baby skin to regulate the skin moisture. The flat seams make the bodysuits even more comfortable when worn - even with neurodermatitis and very sensitive skin - and minimize the risk of skin irritation," adds the long-time practicing pediatrician.
On the cut of the bodies, a midwife explains, "The Tom&Jenny baby body is ideally suited to the needs of our little ones, because it has the perfect cut for every growth phase. Thus, it is available for newborns in sizes 46, 50 and 56 only with long sleeves, because babies lose four times as much heat as an adult. In addition, up to and including size 62, all models are wrap bodysuits, because the neck muscles of the smallest are not yet strong enough to hold their head independently. The baby bodysuit variant for the "big ones" who already hold their little heads, on the other hand, has an American collar opening." Convinced of the benefits of the bodysuits, the midwife goes on to explain, "An integrated scratch guard for the little ones prevents sharp fingernails from damaging the delicate skin. The rounded leg opening improves the fit of the diaper. We are completely satisfied with the result and sure: we have found it, the perfect baby bodysuit."
